Backstage of the Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre is the national pride of Russia and its main symbol. The magnificent building of the Bolshoi Theatre with white columns and the Quadriga of Apollo created by Pyotr Klodt two hundred forty years ago fascinates with its grandeur and beauty being one of the most famous symbols of Moscow and the main tourist attractions. During the excursion we will visit the following premises:
THE BEETHOVEN HALL is one of the most high-tech halls in the world. A wonderful mechanism of transformation gives the opportunity to hide auditorium seats turning the hall into an enormous conference hall. The hall has hi-tech electronic acoustics. Therefore, a sound studio is located here. The modern Beethoven Hall is located under Teatralnaya Square and has four floors under the ground. Behind its walls just 70 meters there is a metro line.
THE WHITE HALL's decorations of 1895 combine noble renaissance and the exuberant Byzantine style. Visitors can see delicate grisaille that bewildered all theatre lovers of the XIX century
THE RED HALL AND THE IMPERIAL FOYER buffet tables were arranged for the emperor and close persons. The hall boggles the mind with its luxury.
THE HISTORIC STAGE The auditorium of the Historic Stage boggles with its luxury and elegance and has harmony of Renaissance and Byzantine styles. There are arabesques, wall lamps, candelabrums, red velvet, natural wood and the real gold at every stage. The total square of gold leaf in the auditorium is 1100 m2.
THE REHEARSAL STAGE. Nobody even can think that the rehearsal stage is located just under the Historic Stage, above the luxurious chandelier with the picturesque ceiling. The stage is a replica of the Historic Stage in terms of dimensions and the form. All rehearsals of operas and ballets excluding pre-premier ones are held here.
THE SEWING WORKSHOP One more wonderful place hidden from the others' eyes, which everyone would like to visit, this is sewing workshops. They are located under the roof, at the level of the famous Quadriga of Apollo, a chariot with four horses over the columns of the Bolshoi Theatre. Just here splendid costumes are manufactured. You will see the process of cutting and needlework
THE EXHIBITION OF COSTUMES We see an exhibition of the real stage dresses of prima ballerinas of the Bolshoi Theatre

House on the Embankment a symbol of prosperity and of Stalin's repressions in the 1930's.
There are many buildings in Moscow along the Moskva River, but only one of them is known as the House on the Embankment, a famous constructivist building in the center of Moscow that used to be an embodiment of how life of Soviet people would look like in the future. It was designed by Soviet architect Boris Iofan and construction was completed in 1931. It is located directly opposite the Kremlin. This house was a unique complex: 505 apartments, with the latest equipment for those years, and was inhabited by a new Soviet elite - generals, people's commissars, cultural figures. A whole system of serving the residents was built: a gym and indoor tennis courts, a cinema, a distribution store, an outpatient clinic, a post office, a day nursery, a kindergarten, a solarium, a library, a dining room, laundry. During the Stalinist purges, many tenants were arrested and disappeared. Two-thirds of the residents were repressed, including the chairman of Rykov's government, Marshal Tukhachevsky. The house became a symbol of this terrible time.
This interesting tour includes visiting a small apartment museum.

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour has the saddest and most tragic history
The Cathedral's history begins in 1812, after the victory of Russian troops over Napoleon's French army. Tsar Alexander I wanted a temple to be erected in Moscow, with the name of Christ the Saviour, in honor of those who fought and died in the Patriotic War of 1812, However it was not until 1839, already in the time of Tsar Nicholas I, when the first stone was laid. It was built for almost 44 years, between 1839 and 1883. After the Revolution of 1917, which included religious persecution, the closing and demolition of temples, Stalin ordered that the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour be demolished with explosives. On the same site Stalin projected for the glory of the USSR the Palace of the Soviets - a mega-building which was planned to be the tallest building in the world (415 meters high plus a statue of Lenin of another 100 meters), which never came to see the light, despite the works being initiated. The construction was interrupted by the Second World War and never renewed. The site was used for an open-air swimming pool - a gigantic outdoor swimming pool, the largest in the world, with hot water and 129 meters in diameter- in the post-war period, and then, in the 1990s the Moscow government decided to rebuild the cathedral. Millions of Muscovites contributed towards the cost of the reconstruction and the new cathedral, an almost exact copy of the building demolished 70 years before, was finally consecrated in 2000.
You will learn about the building's turbulent history of The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour , the highest orthodox temple in the world, admire the elaborate interior of this vast building and enjoy unrivaled panoramic views of the center of Moscow from its 40-meter-high viewing platform.
This tour can be combined with excursion to the House of Embakement. (send us request for the price of this combined tour).

Tour to Sergiev Posad (Russian Vatican) and visit to The Museum of Russian (Matreshka) toys
Sergiyev Posad is a small Russian city located 75 km north-east of Moscow. It is the spiritual center of Russian Orthodoxy. The main sight of the city is the Trinity-Sergius Lavra (monastery), a monument of culture and art included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage. Sergiev Posad is included in the Golden Ring of Russia because of its rich cultural and historical heritage. The area around the city has rich cultural and historical heritage too. More than 250 architectural and archaeological monuments are located in the area; more than 50 churches are among them. The Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius was founded in the early 14th century by one of the most venerated saints of Russia St. Sergius. For centuries, Russian czars and common people set out on pilgrimage to the monastery. It remains one of the most sacred places in Russia today. The name of Sergius of Radonezh is associated with the country's revival after the centuries of Tatar-Mongol rule and Russian Renaissance. There are about ten churches inside the monastery built at different times from the 15th to the 18th century. They offer a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of Russian church architecture. There is no need to see inside all of them. But Assumption Cathedral, commissioned by Ivan the Terrible himself, is a must. It is recognizable by its blue domes with golden stars Trinity Cathedral houses the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh. You will admire the wonderful five-tier iconostasis (many of the icons were painted in the 1400s by the reputed Andrei Rublev himself); visit the Refectory Chamber, one of the most beautiful structures in the ensemble of the Lavra. Trinity Cathedral was a particular favorite of Ivan the Terrible. It was here that he was baptized, got married, and held prayers after successful military campaigns. Today the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius is home to over 300 monks. The monastery houses a theological college, spiritual academy and an icon painting school. The monastery is not the only reason Sergiev Posad is famous for. A traditional folk craft for the manufacture of children's toys started here as well. Legend has it that Father Sergius himself would cut out various wooden toys and whistles for children. We believe that most popular Russian souvenir - the painted Russian matryoshka - a real symbol of Russia, originates from here. You can see some rare nesting dolls and other wooden toys and dolls in the town's Toy Museum or do some matryoshka shopping in the market square near the monastery gates. Matryoshka painting master class might be added upon request.
One day is enough to get acquainted with the main sights of Sergiev Posad. But, if you want to visit the surrounding places of interest (for example, Abramtzevo museum-estate or Gremyachiy waterfall), then it is better to go to the city for the weekend (2-3 days).

Stalin Skyscrapers
If you visit Moscow it will be impossible for you not to see Stalin skyscrapers, since they are popularly known as the Seven Sisters, and they measure between 134 and 240 meters in height. The buildings were built in Moscow in 1940-1950s as the symbol of the power of the Soviet people, who won the Great Patriotic War, as the personification of the "city of the future", which the capital was supposed to become. They combine the Russian Baroque and Gothic styles with the neoclassical one. At present, they House of Moscow University, two hotels, two ministries and two residential buildings. The skyscrapers were built in the form of a ring to emphasize the radial layout of the city. Consequently, The Sisters may best be seen by taking the metro's ring line. Originally, it was planned to build nine such buildings. It was Stalin's intention to symbolize the strength and power of each of the planets in the solar system, to form some kind of magic circle! However, the central object of this mystical ring - the House of Soviets was never destined to materialize. The reason for this was the following: it was planned to construct the building on the ruins of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, which was blown up by the Soviets. Stalin's skyscrapers preserve the tragic fate of a huge number of people associated with them, from architects, German prisoners who worked in construction and those who lived or worked within these walls. These Soviet pyramids were shrouded in mystery from the very first day of their construction. They are majestically beautiful, their greatness is fascinating, and mystical stories about them will convince even the most avowed materialists.
